The United States of America's Military Budget

The federal budget for the United States military in 2015 was 598.5 billion dollars. This makes up 54% of the US spending's last year. It is honestly asinine that our country continues to spend its money on our military when it is almost indisputably the most powerful in the world. We more o our military than the top 20 closest nations combined. Things such as social security, food and agriculture, education, science, and medical and health care combine to only 19%. This is a travesty.  If just half of the military expenditure was put into other American systems, we could solve most of the problems our nation faces today. We have more than enough money to send everyone to college for free. And we have more than enough money to ensure that no one is starving. It is only a matter of electing smart people who know what our nations true priorities are.

  5. I agree that the spending is a large amount, maybe even too much. However, much of this spending isn't on war, but on research. The military commisions outside contractors to try and make new technologies, many of these eventually end up in the civilian world. For example, research into water treatment and storage for soldiers abroad has been used to bring water to places in the world that do not have good access to water. Also, putting this much money into the military creates jobs.

  6. Can't argue with the defense budget that is humongous without being in any major war since WWII
